CANON SPONSORS 10 STUDENT TO STUDY FILM TECHNOLOGY

Canon Central & North Africa (CCNA) through the Miraisha programme has partnered with KCA University (KCAU) to support ten students to pursue a certificate program in Film Technology. The sponsorship was announced in a virtual meeting held on 5th May 2021.

CCNA had previously partnered with KCA University Department of Performing Arts, Film, Media & Economics (PAFMES) to offer practical training to KCAU students in the areas of storytelling, photography, videography and lighting.

Speaking during the virtual meet and greet session with the students, CCNA Managing Director Somesh Adukia said Miraisha program was a tool to support young people to develop their skills and improve their communities. “The Miraisha Programme is designed to give young people the tools and support to develop their skills and improve not only their own lives but also the lives of those in their communities. We look forward to seeing these scholars nurture their creative talents during their time at KCA University.”

Benson Ngobia, Chair of Department, PAFMES welcomed the students and assured them that KCAU would guide them to realize their dreams. “With our practical approach to learning and assessment, I assure you that you have come to the right place.  You will have the opportunity to forge strong networks with students from other disciplines as you sharpen your storytelling tools and keep telling the African story.” He said.

The ten students had previously gone through Canon’s Miraisha program, and acquired these scholarships after a successful emotional social media campaign run by Canon earlier in the year. The students shared their dreams and lauded Canon and KCAU for the initiative which they said will open new opportunities for them as they pursue their dreams.

They are expected to complete the program in December 2021.
